Cinema is still the most popular mode of entertainment in our huge country. That’s why when a mass change regarding a certain issue is required, cinema can be used skillfully and with sensitivity to appeal to the conformist minds. Homosexuality was a criminal offense in our country and that’s why Deepa Mehta along with the star cast of the movie Fire had to face backlash from the people of this country in the ‘90s.
But things have changed drastically over the last decade. 6th September 2018 marked a legendary day in the pages of Indian history. Because the Supreme court of India decriminalized homosexuality in our country. And finally, love won over everything else. Bollywood filmmakers have tried to tap the pulse of the time and trends through their movies. But when it came to homosexuality subject, they either panned the story or presented them just as an element of humor. For a long time, homosexual characters were introduced only for some mindless comic reliefs. And they worked because people weren’t ready to accept them wholeheartedly. Not that everyone has changed their mindset but yes, a change is making its ripples felt. You can gauge that by the response the Bollywood movies made around LGBTQ relationships get. Thank god, finally, there is much freedom where everyone can express their sexuality without any taboo. And kudos to those Bollywood directors who have attempted on LGBTQ movies without mocking them. As June is celebrated as Pride Month worldwide, here is a list of Bollywood LGBTQ movies that were done right and touched the hearts of people: - Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019) Director: Shelly Chopra Dhar This was India’s first coming-of-age lesbian romantic comedy movie. A Punjabi girl named Sweety Chaudhury has to hide her sexual orientation simply because “they won’t understand”. To please her father, she agrees to marry a writer who loves her intensely. But she decides to come out of the closet and also win her love. A thoroughly commercial movie with some A-lister Bollywood stars was required to address this subject so that people can normalize “homosexuality”. The screenplay was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science for its library’s core collection. Aligarh (2016) Director: Hansal Mehta Ramchandra Siras is a reputed professor at Aligarh Muslim University. He is filmed having sex with a rickshaw puller at his home by a local news channel. As the news emerges, he is suspended from his job and is forced to leave the building where he lived. This immensely sensible movie received a standing ovation at the Busan Film Festival. The movie is bold, beautiful, gut-wrenching, and heart-warming all at the same time. This is one of the best Manoj Bajpayee movies. Watch this biographical drama movie online on Mzaalo. Download this best free app for movies, Mzaalo for your android or iOS, and win exciting reward coins from brands like Provogue, Swiss Military, Solo-Pimp, etc. My Brother Nikhil (2005) Director: Onir My Brother ….. Nikhil was way ahead of its time. It addressed AIDS disease as well as homosexuality. AIDS was also a big taboo back then (still is) and homosexuality was highly frowned upon. The homosexuality angle was dealt with quite subtly. It narrated the story of Nikhil who is a talented young swimmer. His life starts falling apart as he is diagnosed with HIV and is forcibly quarantined by society. Kapoor & Sons (2016) Director: Shakun Batra Arjun and Rahul are brothers but there’s an intense problem between them that they have never addressed. They return to their homeland to see their ailing grandpa. Many emotional hiccups pop up as the whole family gathers. There is no such thing as a “happy family”, people just hide their flaws well. Amidst this chaos, a girl becomes a reason for the rift between Arjun and Rahul. Rahul has always been the “perfect child” to his parents but things take a different turn when his mom finds out that he is gay. And this is exactly how any other Indian mom would react to finding out the “odd” sexual orientation of their kids. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020) Directors: Hitesh Kewalya, Rohit Sharma The sequel to Shubh Mangal Saavdhan was the much-needed movie in this genre. Because of its star cast and lighthearted nature, it was bound to get better openings and appeal to a larger audience. Kartik and Aman are a gay couple and there is a long, difficult road that they have to cross to be with each other. Aman’s family is against their relationship and Kartik is hell-bent to marry Aman. Isn’t that the perfect template for normalizing homosexual relationships through cinema? Watch Shubh Mangal Saavdhan on Mzaalo in full HD. Dunno Y... Na Jaane Kyon (2010) Director: Sanjay Sharma This Bollywood romance drama movie is about a married couple. The husband secretly falls in love with a male prostitute. And as usual, due to family reputation, societal norms, they fail to pursue their relationship further. Watch this fine Bollywood LGBTQ movie online on Mzaalo for free.

Watching movies is definitely a personal choice. But there is hardly anyone in this world who doesn’t watch movies. Some may watch 4-5 movies in a year while some watch 4-5 movies in a day. Movies have various genres like crime thriller, murder mystery, action-adventure, science fiction, etc. Among all types of movie genres, comedy has the biggest fan following. Even doctors recommend watching comedy movies and shows for their unique appeal to mind, body, and soul.
It takes 10 muscles to smile and 17 muscles to laugh while it takes 43 muscles to frown - so which one would you choose? While watching a comedy movie, your lips automatically take a curvy shape, and at moments you even laugh out loud. Smiles and laughter are the common outcomes of watching comedy movies. Read below the top 7 reasons to watch comedy movies and binge-watch comedies online: - Cheers You Up When a comedy movie like Khiladi 786 or Son of Sardaar is playing, can you stay angry or unhappy? It’s impossible not to laugh or cheer up when a comedy movie is being played. They have the power to instantly cheer you up and shift your attention to happy thoughts. Sometimes, you aren’t angry or anxious, you are just bored or tired after a long day at work. So, play any comedy movie online and relax. Relieves Tension There will be obstacles in your way for sure. But you cannot always stay tense for that reason. If you stay tense most of the time, that will affect your digestion, skin, hair, sleep, and every other thing in life. To release or relieve your tension, simply play a classic Bollywood comedy movie like Johnny-Walker or a new age Bollywood comedy like Partner. Laughing Gives A Healthy Heart Do you know that laughter improves the function of blood vessels? As the functions of blood vessels increase, the blood flow to your heart increases. This gives you better protection against heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems. Of course, other lifestyle choices like eating, sleeping, and exercising are also required to maintain a good heart. But when you maintain a good lifestyle with a smiling face or laughter, the effects are stronger. Laughing Lowers Blood Pressure Many medical professionals say that laughter is the fastest approach to lower blood pressure. Do you guys remember Boman Irani’s character from Munnabhai M.B.B.S.? Whenever he used to feel tense, he used to start laughing (even forcefully) because that helps in the reduction of blood pressure. As per research humor and laughter can assist in lowering systolic blood pressure i.e. top number by around 10 points within 20 minutes merely. (source: https://www.parashospitals.com/blogs/laughter-help-lower-blood-pressure/). Helps You Bond With People A smiling face attracts more people. People will be drawn to you more when you answer their queries with a smiling face. And when you are laughing, it will make others laugh too. When all the aforesaid points are covered by you, it will be easier to retain a smiling calm face. Make a practice of remembering a funny sequence from comedy movies when you are under stress and you will see a drastic change in your personality. Makes You Feel Good & Confident Next time when you are playing a comedy movie and laughing, notice how your body behaves. When you laugh without any inhibitions, after a while you will feel lighter and better. All your problems would seem small then and that’s the mantra to lead life. When you attain the ability to wipe away your problems with a smiling face, remember you have become wiser.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the finest Bollywood actors today. He is from NSD and struggled for 13 years to get noticed by the masses and the critics. After doing some small roles here and there, he finally got his due in the crime drama movie Gangs of Wasseypur directed by Anurag Kashyap. (Watch Anurag Kashyap Hit movies on Mzaalo for free. Download this free movie streaming app for your android or iOS)
While studying at NSD, Nawaz reveals that he was introduced to Satyajit Ray movies. He says, “We watched his films constantly. It was our way of becoming aware of the power of cinema. Sad to say, that power has not been realized by any other Indian filmmaker on the global platform.” An actor par excellence who has worked with some of the acclaimed directors was asked about his take on Anurag Kashyap (whose movies transformed Nawazuddin’s story in Bollywood) or any director whose work is exemplary. He replied that “Yes, Anurag Kashyap’s name does come up in the international cinema. Also, Ritesh Batra. Ritesh has the same quality as Ray Saab. He humanizes his plot, tells the story of an individual’s struggle for survival with dignity in the face of adversity, much in the same way as the best works of Satyajit Ray. I’ve had the privilege of working with both Anurag and Ritesh. What I wouldn’t have given to work with Ray Saab! Why only me? Any actor who is worth anything would give his right eye left arm and both legs to work with Ray Saab.” (Watch Satyajit Ray movies on Mzaalo in full HD and win exciting reward coins from Provogue, Lifestyle, The Man Company, etc.) So, what makes Satyajit Ray movies so special to his actors? The Munna Michael star Nawazuddin Siddiqui replied, “He makes actors look like non-actors. He strips them of all acting and lays bare the human being within. Soumitra Chatterjee was so brilliant in Ray’s cinema because he was not an actor. He was not playing any character. He was living a life. Sharmila Tagore Ji in Ray’s films was not a glamorous actress. She was an ordinary woman. It is this ordinariness that makes Ray Saab's characters so memorable. His cinema was always about an individual’s journey. He cared for the common man or woman’s needs desires and anxieties. He entered that mind space with much respect and compassion. For him, the individual was much larger than the cause.” (Watch Munna Michael - a Bollywood dance drama movie online on Mzaalo for free) This amazing Bollywood actor feels that Indian cinema has meandered far away from its roots. He says, “Where is the struggle of the rustic individual in our cinema? Even when we have a villager the story is all about the villager’s journey into the city. Ray Saab’s Pather Panchali which I’ve seen innumerable times is a deeply compassionate study of a rural family. Every time something new is revealed to me in Pather Panchali.” Coming from a humble background and learning the basics from NSD, one can gauge what exactly Nawazuddin Siddiqui means. Commenting more on the current situation of Indian Cinema, Nawazuddin said, “Today it’s all about posing. You design award-winning films. You make films to prove a point. You can’t escape a political ideology in your work. You are either for or against certain ideologies. Satyajit Ray’s cinema was liberated of all socio-political restrictions. He made the films that he wanted to, not for awards nor to please any political ideology.” May 2020 is the birth centenary year of Satyajit Ray who is a big name not only in Indian Cinema but World Cinema too. Don’t miss the chance to watch Pather Panchali online on Mzaalo for free.
